At New Chapter Primary School, Safeguarding and Child Protection is paramount and we are fully committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all of our children.

Safeguarding statement

Safeguarding is everybody’s business.  New Chapter Primary School is committed to ensuring that all our children and young people are safe and feel safe; that children, parents and carers, and staff are able to talk about any safeguarding concerns and feel assured that they will be listened to; and that all staff and volunteers are aware of and implement safeguarding procedures and guidance, including what to do if they suspect a child or young person may be experiencing, or at risk of, harm.  We expect everyone who works in our school to share this commitment.

This policy applies to all adults, including volunteers, working in or on behalf of New Chapter Primary School.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

  • Protecting children from harm;
  • Preventing impairment of children's health or development;
  • Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;
  • Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

Child Protection

Child protection is a key element in work to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.  It refers to the activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering or are likely to suffer significant harm.

How are children taught about Safeguarding?

At New Chapter Primary School, children are taught about safeguarding, including online, through various teaching and learning opportunities as part of providing a broad and balanced curriculum.  Children are taught to recognise when they are at risk and how to get help when they need it.

Children learn about safeguarding through:

  • PSHE and SRE lessons
  • RE lessons
  • Ethos Assemblies
  • Circle times and discussions
  • Pastoral interventions

Children are encouraged to talk about any concerns they may have and share any concerns around peers or family members.

Safeguarding Concerns
